I have 2 hd one with win2kpro and on with xp pro. both programs run good. Win 2kpro is the default.
Problem: Whenever I switch to from XP to Win2k it takes about 25 min to start. It stops at "applying computer settings". Now win2k is not starting. After "applying computer setting" I get a blue screen with the mouse pointer on it. Any help appreciated Sodeysay |

Oh crap, I was going to do a dual boot system with both of these OS's except that my XP is the home version. I'll be watching closely to this thread to see if anybody with knowledge can solve your problem. Wish I could help, but to date my experience is 9x systems and NT 4.0, sorry.

Sodeysay, it’s hard to say what the problem is, could you post some system specs also check your event viewer for any problems. Do you have the XP system restore feature enabled on the 2K drive?
AlwaysUp, I run multi-boot configurations on all of my PCs and the only one I have 2K on is my wife’s which has XP home, XP Pro, 2000 PRO and 2000 Server and it’s been rock solid for over a year.

Something has corrupted the Win2k install. Probably a driver not loading or a service not starting.
I would backup the boot.ini file, then run a repair on the Win2k install, then replace the new boot.ini file (only if needed) with your backup. |

Are the 2 O/S's on the same partition, or seperate ones?

I think I have found the problem. The HD with Win2kPro is faulty. It is making grinding and on bootup the SMART is saying backup files imminent failure of HD.
There are a few Record Segments unreadable. Drive image and Partition Magic is giving me an Error #110. I am going to return the drive. This drive was my Primary so I have to make my secondary the master. Will there be any problems with the switch eg:drive letters etc. Sodeysay |

Depends on how you switch them.
Norton's Ghost is the easy way. |

If it boot up to XP fine you change them under Disk Management. Don't try to change them under "My Computer". It will let you but it will cause problems now or down the road.

Should I change the drive letters before or after removing the drive. It has my C: D: & E: partitions
The other drive with XP has F: G: H: and XP is on H: My CD-rom is J: and CD-RW is I: I am new to this. Thanks for all the replies. Sodeysay |

Take the drive with 2000 out first and XP may change them on it's own. If you only have one bootable partition XP should call it C:.
