new mobo, windows 98 question

i'm planning on buying a new mobo ( a abit KD7) and i just did a reinstalll of windows on my old mobo (soyo sy- 7izb) is it possible to do this without reinstalling (windows 98SE in case that matters.)
if the answer is , no it can not be done, that's no problem, i was just wondering if it could be done and if no, why????
