XP back button

Hi Gang

No I have not flipped my wig, but you might think so after I explain what is happening. I have XP pro installed on a Pent.2 with lots of memory and all that. I cannot get my browser back button in my tool bar to work all the time, it sees to work when ever it feels like. When ever I might be looking at my e-mail or on the web, it don't seem to make any difference. The back button is lit up not grayed out and it it clicks when ever I click on it, but nothing happens, no little graph bar comes up at the bottom or anything. I am running IE 6.

Take care..........Gunny

Some websites won't let you back up. It's their way of keeping you around. It's more like to good way to make people mad. Next time try clicking on the down arrow next to the back arrow and selecting a page from the dropdown list. If that works you'll know it's the fault of whoever made the site and not your computer.

Hi Tuf
Thanks for the reply. I already tried your suggestions, and neither of them work. I was sort of thinking what you said about the keeping you at their site. Because some sites are ok and them some are not. But it will not even go back to pages at the same site, at times, (actually most of the time). But everything else seems to work alright. A very minor thing but irritating non the less. For a older computer, it seems to do alright and is fairly fast normally. This just seems to be some little puzzling thing, very odd. The computer has not been used very much, and has very little added things on it. Still a puzzle.

Take care.........Gunny

If you think it is a problem with Internet Explorer you can repair the installation by going to add/remove programs and select IE. It will give you the option to repair.

First I would stop by Windows update and see if there are any critical updates you are missing. (Tools>Window's Update)

Hi Force -Flow and Tuf

Thanks Tuf I will try that I am up on the updates for Windows, but I will give IE repair a try, I sort of think for some reson it might be IE and not Windows.

Force Flow the last site I went to this morning that this did it on was bil-jac.com it is a dog food place and I was checking it out. I got to the site ok, quick and everything, but when I was looking at some of the pages I tried to go back and out and the back button would register but nothing would happen, I even waited for several minutes to see if it just was hung up or some thing, or just being slow and still nothing happened......... I just surfed around that site, redvette. I got the back button. So, that being the case, it's probably the browser.

Hi again force flow

I was just thinking, I went in to the add & remove programs to look for IE6 and it was not there. When Tuf told me to go in and click on the fix on IE was he thinking I had XP, or some thing else? Like I said I am new to XP, but should it not show up in my add & remove programs list, just like in 98SE? I looked several times and it is not there. Now what???????? I cannot find it any where. I do have it though, so I know it has to be some where in there. I have the icon and it shows me it is version 6. I was thinking maybe XP does not allow you to fix IE, like in previous versions.

Take care..........Gunny

Try the backspace button in IE, or another browser like Mozilla or Opera... their faster than Internet Explorer anyway and use less memory. You can get them at http://www.download.com

I know IE is imbedded into winXP, but I'm not sure if that would be why it's not showing up.

If you can't find it to remove it, just install IE overtop of it (and if it appears in the add/remove progs list); uninstall, then reinstall.

You can't actually remove IE from Windows. If it does show up in ADD/REMOVE Progams list look over to the left and see the button for ADD/REMOVE Windows Components it will be in there. Just highlight IE and click next.
