XP & IE6 hang

Last couple of weeks my PC with XP Pro has been locking up in IE. Every time it has happened is when I'm using back arrow on browser or back button on Logitech mouse.

System just freezes with pointer arrow and hourglass. Mouse then will not work. I do not see any HD activity. Cntl., Alt., Delete will not work. Only way to recover is power off and back on.

I checked system temps and I'm fine with 41C.

This just started last couple of weeks.

I've tried searching MS and cain't find anything. I suspect my searching abilities are lacking as I do not get any hits searching on system freeze or system hangs.

Just a thought .. do you have any FTP locations in the address history list? In any event, might help to clean out your Address locations and temp files and see if it helps?

question for ya did you do any upgrading lately...sound card, vid card????

i freeze using the scroll wheel in IE and device manager when i expand devices, but i get no hour glass just lock up crt alt del doesnt work only pushin the button does any good...

Yes mine started about 2 to 4 weeks ago when I was trying to get the VCR function fo my TV tuner card to work. It recorded (or at least appeared to) fine but wouldn't play back. After several ATI downloads and other Codecs downloads I had a lot of problems with TV tuner. Got to where I couldn't even view TV.

Anyway finally got that fixed and got record function to play back but still have no sound.

It was during this period when I started having lockups. I have a Logitech wireless 4 button trackball mouse. Every time it has locked up is when I've hit the back button on the mouse. Such as after reading a post here on the forum and I will hit the back button on the mouse to go back to the thread and it will lock with the hourglass.

Like I said this all started when I was making a lot of changes trying to get the VCR function to work with my TV tuner card.

I might put another mouse on here.

it sounds like another finicky ati card,i have had so many problems with ati reinstalls or driver upgrades a clean install might be the answer,here is a thread on a clean installhttp://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...ht=ati+install

well i messed around with some ram in my machine and i have (so i think) eliminated the freezing in device manager, but not in IE

i removed one stick of ram and have it running in slot 1 at present, so i am wondering if its a ram or ram slot problem....

I'm giving serious thought about format and clean install. This might be the best time to do it as it's supposed to be cold here another week or so.

If I ever build another PC, I'm goint to take a serious look at other video cards and TV tuners. ATI just seems so complicated to set up with drivers and such. Maybe they are all like that.

i meant a clean install of your video card,i like there video cards there just hard to get going once you have trouble with them.

well im getting diff feed back now....

it looks as if it could very well be my ram or my mobo

i loaded Dungeon Siege today and i cant even get it to run.....it instantly locks up as soon as the first image appears.....
