arcserve backup

i've got an arcserve question i wanted to ask here before i called tech support (i hate calling their tech support).
i'm using arcserve version 9 on my windows 2000 exchange server. i've got the backup agent for exchange, and it appears to correctly program itself to function with exchange, but it doesn't backup my drive M. i've viewed the log, and when it gets to M it says "skip, allow agent to backup" then when the agent takes over, it says "unable to backup exchange database. please mount the database and try again." i went to the db configuration screen to try and mount it, but all it will let me mount is the server itself, and i still get the same error message. anyone have any idea what's goin on?
