Windows ME displays strange text

I have run into a problem I cannot seem to figure out. I was called to fix a comp (Windows ME) with Windows Protection Error and managed to fix it with selective Startup. The next day, a few of the programs displayed gibberish rather than their regular text. Also, the printer prints out the same gibberish, even from the programs that display OK on the monitor. Ran Ad-Aware and cleaned some of the junk off of it, but no change in the display or printing. Ran virus scan, no virus found. I am at my wits end with this one. Thanks

Beth

Thanks, I'll try that. I was a bit reluctant to open the case as it is still under warranty (parts only) from the place she bought it from. I will call the company and see if I can open the case for that test. Will let you know.
