Question question about Outlook express?

hello, i have some question regarding outlook express. what is the different between outlook express and Microsoft outlook which come in bundle with the OfficeXp. Isn't there any difference between those 2. Also, if i want to receive my e-mail message from Outlook Express or Microsoft outlook from my Hotmail or Yahoo account instead of going to the hotmail or yahoo site to check the mail. How can i set it up? does it have something to do with SMTP, POP3 or IMPT. can you explain what are those use for. how can i set up the outlook express or Microsofot outlook so i can check and receive my e-mail right from there. Thank You

Outlook is more for corporate e-mail systems that have mail servers. Outlook Express is more for the home user that uses POP3 or Hotmail e-mail accounts. You can use OE to access your Hotmail e-mail without going to the website; once you add a new e-mail account and tell it that you have a Hotmail address, it basically does the rest. It won't work for Yahoo, however. M$ toys only play well with their own kind.

doctorgonzo,
OE and OUtlook work perfectly with Yahoo!, and most other POP3 email services you might care to name. It's just that Yahoo! no longer offers POP3 access, except as a premium (ie paid) service.

Oh yes, and Outlook and OE will do HTTP as well.

Outlook is more a PIM (personal information Manager) and the mail service is part of that functionality. You can use Outlook to manage your appointments and contacts, tasklists and calendar, and to set up meetings. For the last,if your machine is on a LAn or other network, you can specify the time and attendees for a meeting, and Outlook will determine the optimum placing depending on the availability of the other attendees. It does a lot of other stuff too.

Outlook Express is a stripped down version of Outlook, with everything but the email manager and the address book stripped out.

I was talking about the non-POP3 access to Yahoo; most people don't pay for POP3 access to Yahoo. Why would they? Especially since most ISPs provide a POP3 e-mail account anyway.

If you like the calendar and appointment function and event reminder in Outlook, you could use it at home. It even has the option for sending an email at a later date/time.
Despite its nice advanced functions, I think it's a bit combersome.
Outlook express is more intuitive and easy to use.

If you go to Yahoo and Hotmail HELP section, they have information on how to step by step set up your email retrieval.

Good luck,
