Unhappy freeze ups

I am haveing trouble with my computer freezing-up when I go to do print jobs, getting on the internet or just opening ms word. I does it out of the blue and with no warning. I have put a new fan on my cpu but this did not help. I have a 2.4 Ghz p4 cpu with win xp. Any ideas? Might it be the Cpu is bad?

Cool

I don't have a answer for you but I do not believe your CPU is bad. I posted here yesterday http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?threadid=55196 about my system with XP Pro hanging up. Mine so far has only happened when i'm on the net using IE6. I have searched the MS knowledge base without any postive results. I believe XP has a bug lurking about.

The first thing to do is run with the case open and make sure your fans are running if so then you should try another quality power supply. If that fails then you want to try running on just one stick quality memory.

Cool

My temps are 41C and fans running. I have 2 sticks of Crucial 256M and have tried each individually. Have not changed power supply. I have a 340W Enermax and do no think that is problem. I only experience this while in IE6 and it started about 2 weeks ago after a year of no problems.

I believe my problem has to do with IE6 or video drivers. This started after I tried numerous changes trying to get my TV tuner card to record and play back video. While I was finally able to get it to record and play back I have no sound on playback. In the process I lost all TV tuner capability several times and did system restores and other downloads to recover.

Again I think my problem stems from the many changes I made trying to get the TV tuner to record and play back.

If it keeps happening I'm going to bite the bullit and format and reload unless someone comes up with something.

Yes I do believe XP has a bug lurking. If you read all the post on these forums a lot of people are having system hangs.
