Boom Can't Open IE

I couldn't open an IE window through the quick launch icon, the start menu icon, or the run prompt. so I restarted and I got a "System recovered from a serious error." message. I still can't open an IE window other than clicking links in outlook express. can anyone help me?

Probably the easiest would be to restart you system to an earlier working configuration. I had a similar prob last week except nothing I clicked would execute, I banged down on F8 and restarted an earlier working config and all is well.

I don't use system restore. What would be the cause of this problem?

I don't want to put the service pack because I don't want to risk having problems. also, the error doesn't come up every restart so what else can I do

don't know if this will help, but go to the control panel, add/remove, programs, select IE, you should receive a prompt, select repair...if that doesn't work try uninstalling, reinstalling...

I didn't see it in add/remove, but it was in add/remove windows components if that's what you meant. in which case, it didn't work

I have seen this before and found loading the most recent SP's and patches and upgrading IE fixes it and much more.

I noticed when I click to open IE it does appear in the task manager for a quick second, does that mean anything?
