help!!! my floppy has forgot how to read a disc, suddenly all of my photo album has been designated off limits by my b****y 'A' drive. occasionaly i get a message that says 'A' not available but mostly it tells me that the disc is not formated and do i want to format now. As all of my discs were formated and photos downloaded from my digi cam thru the puter this can only be a glitch.
anyone ever come across this prob themselves or know how to cure same i will be ETERNALY gratefull for any help thrown my way.

Hi dufuss,
Welcome to PC Mechanic !! ![]() Sure sounds like the drive went south.... Do you have another / spare drive to plug in and see if it works? TwoRails |

I'm with TwoRails, floppy drives are so cheap it would certainly seem the easiest way to fix the problem.
I would check your discs in another computer tho', just in case they're the problem (let's hope this isn't so!!) |

Are you running windows xp? I've come across this exact problem where my disks give me this error in any machine with xp on it, but work fine with windows 98. I think its an nt problem as i've heard that windows 2000 does the same thing.

Try a couple other floppies you know to be good in your A drive. If you get the same problem then it is almost certainly the drive gone. Cheap and easy to replace. Think about getting a USB Flash Drive (pen drive) which holds a lot more than a floppy and is much more effective for most storage purposes.

you'll still want the floppy in working order, even if you decide to get a Flash Drive...if nothing more than for booting with a startup disc in case of a problem....
