Do I really need to have Sp1 with XP Pro? I don't like the idea of
someone watching what I do. Also I don't want it to mess my system up. |

I don't really understand what you mean by you don't like someone watching you. Who would be watching you?
If you don't want to apply SP1 to your computer then don't. It does make roughly three hundred and twenty improvements to the OS most of them security related. It would seem to me that if you don't like people in your business you would want to apply SP1 but to each his own. |

That's not what I really meant to say. It's just that there are so many security updates, you really don't know probably a quarter
of what your actually downloading. |

I would strongly recommend doing the sp1 upgrade, xp was released before it was completed and a lot off holes was left open for further developement processes, and sp1 will replace thoes open files, plus fix many others, do not be affrade to do it if you have everything up to snuff, hardwarewise.

I've been using XPpro since the spring. I've had no problems. I haven't loaded SP1.
I use Norton AV and ZoneAlarm for security and I run SpyBot once in a while. Security without SP1 doesn't seem to be a problem. If your system is running good and you don't already have security problems, I'd say "If it ain't broke...."

I have been running XP Pro since this past summer and as of yet
had no problem with it. I just really wanted to find out the pros and cons of downloading SP1. |

Pros: What Tuf said.
Cons: Mammoth download. Insufferable if you are on dial-up.

If you are curious about what is in SP1,M$ has a detailed list of every file and exactly what it upgrades. Not all computers will need all of the files. It is arduous reading but if you are interested it is available.
