Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5
Recently I installed Adobe Acrobat 5.0.5 on a WinXP machine and I can not convert anything to a .pdf. The fault says "...cannot locate Acrobat Distiller printer driver". I can not find anything on the MS site but the Adobe site has a fix that requres changes to the Enviroment Variables, specifically the System Variables. Is there a better way to get Acrobat 5.0.5 to run on XP (SP1 is installed) and am I heading for trouble changing the Envoriment Variables?
Thanks |

Did you install Distiller? Acrobat Distiller should be listed in your printer folder. While Acrobat itself can create pdf files. Often it is easier to print an existing document to Distiller, it doesn't printout on paper, to create your pdf.
I also run run Acrobat on XP Pro SP1 on several computers. I do believe I did download some updates but I think they were to upgrade to .5, my disks are 5.0. |

sometimes you need to install a ghost printer that adobe will look for. find a postscript printer from the windows printer setup in control panel. install that printer to an unused port on your computer. it doesn't matter that there is no physical printer there - it does the job.
Then just select your real printer when you need to print something. just dont set the postscript as the default printer. this has worked for us on multiple machines so i hope this helps you! |

Thanks guys. The distiller did not get installed with XP, I am assuming this has something to do with the fact that XP uses it's own drivers for the printer. My W2K machine at work does show the distiller printer where as the XP machine does not. Hence the problem. There are some options on the Adobe disk for intalling a postscript printer, I'll give that a shot. But first I'll remove the program and do a reinstall. The only nonXP program running in the background is Norton 2003. I'll disable it before the next install. Anybody know of any XP programs running that might restrict the Adobe installation?
