Question Explorer annoyance

I have the audio problem solved but something else has cropped up.

Again this is since downloading the MS Criticle updates.

This is a major annoyance in Windows Explorer, not IE. When I open a folder, lets say the Windows folder and then open a folder within that folder, let's say the Temp folder and do some work with the files.

I then close that folder, go to the windows folder icon and click the - sign to close up the folder.

The Windows folder closes up and all the folders hide away inside the windows folder. At least that is what is supposed to happen.

Well since downloading the updates, when I click on the - sign the folder will close up, but then will spring back open. I have to hit that - sign a second time to get it to close.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so were you able to over come it? If so I sure would appreciate knowing how. It really is an annoyance when you work a lot in Explorer.

No i haven't had that happen but it does sound annoying. Does it do it everytime? I wonder if it has something to do with the mouse driver or one of the settings. Several years ago I tried the "click once to open" setting and it liked to drove me nuts. I thought it would save me some clicking but it didn't.

Does it act like this in Safe Mode?

If you look in on your Mouse properties in Control Panel, did any of the settings change?

If you have Active Desktop enabled, try turning Active Desktop off & see if that helps.

If none of these help, I'll spin my Oijia-board brain around a bit more for more guesses

[hi Tuf, just saw your post -
- dizzy self just thought of another try: you could run a repair (inplace reinstall) of IE - since it shares so many files and subroutines with Windows Explorer]

I've run into that on several systems..... haven't found a cure yet. Also, it doesn't seem to be 100% consistent. It may have something to do with "refreshing" the drives / directories as it will do that sometimes on this machine I'm one right now. Just opening WE, and expanding and collapsing works fine if nothing else is done, but it seems to act up if moving / changing files / directories.

That is exactly it TwoRails. It only happens if you do anything with the expanded files. And yes tuf it happens every time.

I'll give your suggestions a try Gary.
