With a new computer, I purchased and received Windows
XP Home OEM Version, new from Microsoft. I paid fully for it. Then "computer PC" itself turned out to be a dud, which I returned to store. THEY WOULD NOT TAKE BACK "XP OEM" software. I then built a computer, with this forum's help, currently loaded with Windows ME. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN LOAD THE PURCHASED COPY OF WINDOWS XP on my PC? I've tried searching Microsoft's help and customer service sites - with no luck! Seems like if I purchased this OEM version of XP HOME OS, I should be able to use it???

Yes it is very easy. Most of us here use OEM versions.
You state that you have ME currently. Do you want to do a fresh install of XP? If so put your XP CD in tray and change BIOS to boot from CD ROM as first boot device. It will see that you have a copy of ME running and give you to option to install XP to it's own partition and have a dual boot system or do a fresh install. Personally I would back up data and do a fresh install since you will have to reload all programs that you wish to run under XP anyway. Chas

If it's the generic oem version you can use it with no problems. If the disk is branded with a computer makers name you probably can't. I would think since they wouldn't allow you to return it that it would be the generic one.
PS- That is a store I wouldn't deal with anymore. |
