Where has my office gone?

I recently built a new computer, and I slaved the hard drive from thier old computer to their new one. I was able to re-create most of their desktop shortcuts, but I am having a difficult time with Microsoft Office. The Office shortcut bar no longer appears, and if I click on a Word document icon on the desktop it says that it is not installed. I have even tried in Windows Explorer clicking on the exe for Word, but I still get the same error message. Help? I could reinstall Office, but is there a way to not have to go through that trouble? Does Office need to be installed on the boot drive?

When programs are installed they put entries in various places ( registry, shortcuts, windows folder...etc) which can make it very hard to transfer them. I think it would be for the better to just reinstall it.

I agree with redo. If you wanted to have everthing as they had it before you could have set their old one as the master and used the other as the slave and formatted it.

Reinstalling the software is the best and easiest way to go. It avoids the hasstle of trying to make the moved program work.

As a matter of fact, is the *only way* to go.

I've had the rare instance where some relatively new programs ran after I moved it.

It's not impossible; just not probable and practical.
