check your memory. i've had plenty of physical memory dumps, swaped out some ram and problem solved. check cnet.com for shareware memory testers.

ok thank you,
i hope it's not the ram, i just bought it,
i solved the problem temporaryly by switching bach to win 98SE.
it seems to have solved the problem so could it have been a bad install of win 2k????

ok i finaly solved this one, and wanted to post the sollution so that it may serve as a refference.
the problem was located in my PSU, apperantly it lot some power due t weear and tear.
the computer started simply shutting down during bootup or could not find certain drivers and a very typical HD shutdown noise was heard (the power supply stoped sending power to the drives)
when i replaced the psu the above problem was solved as well,
thank you for your help
