Floppy Problem

Hello All

I'm having a problem with my floppy drive on my XP Pro machine.... Any floppy I put in the drive, I get a message saying the disk is not formatted, would you like to format. I say yes, and then it says it's unable to format.

The disks all work fine on my w98 machine. I'm at a loss, any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Try a floppy disk head cleaner. You can probably get one at Radio Shack, Comp USAor where computer parts are sold. This usually gets em going again.

Are you formatting those floppy disks from Windows 98?

You know I'm seeing more and more of this. I wonder if it's because everyone is using old floppies, I doubt many people buy new ones anymore.

I have had similar problems between 98 and XP. If I format them on the 9X computer I can write to them with the XP computer and use them on the 9X computer. If I format them on the XP computer the 9X one can't use them at all.

I found out that formatting floppies in W98 somehow corrupts them. When I formatted one in W98 I couldn't read it in DOS.

But when I formatted it in DOS I could read it both in DOS and in any Windows system.
