IRQ Assignments

Hey everybody,

Just been looking around for my IRQ assignments. Looks like everything is alright. Except my Sound Card and Network Card. They are both sharing IRQ 17. The Sound card and the NIC are next to each other in their PCI slots I believe. I do not have any IRQ conflicts. But I am wondering can this cause any problems? perhaps I can move the NIC some where else. But I am wondering if it will take some other IRQ and share it with another one?

OS is Windows 2000. Sound card is SB LIVE, and NIC is Netgear FA311. Thanks everybody!

Markoman1027,
If you aren't having problems with your music skipping as you click around on the net, leave them where they are.
With Win98se, thats was the problem with the nic and sound card sharing the same IRQ.
W2K sure does a better job of handling IRQs then win98

If it's working, don't worry about it... if it causes trouble, then lets take a look at it.

Thanks guys. I'll get back to you guys about if I experience any problems.

Just one more thing. I do not have any IRQ conflicts. I am not experiencing any problems. But I am wondering what kind of problems should I be expecting?

Your sound card and NIC are both most likely plug and play which Windows will assign and share automatically. I`m currently sharing 5 devices on IRQ 9 without a prob.

Usually problems occur with non plug and play devices which may have to be configured manually. If you start assigning IRQs manually it gives the OS less flexibility.

If it works, don`t fix it...

Thanks KHT. They are both plug in play, but I have it set in my BIOS for the BIOS to determine IRQ assignments not Windows. Ohwell. No problems happening yet.

Thanks everybody on your inputs!
