Really strange, computer running fine then suddenly finding it hard to connect to the internet, when i do it crawls along and the pages take ages to download or i get the can not find server etc. reloaded isp settings tried system restore every restore point would not work, came back with the message cannot restore no changes have been made. Checked for viruses nothing came up. strange!

If your on a dial up there may be a lot of noise on your phone line you may want to have it checked for noise. You may also want to think about trying another modem and see if this solves the problem.

As for the System Restore part of your questuin, I have had the same problem before. I diasabled it and use Norton Ghost.
Have you checked with your ISP or anyone else using the same ISP to see if they are having any problems? |

I have this problem, and I am on rogers highspeed which of course is a cable modem. About every two weeks, when this happens, I have to shut down all(5) of my machines, then I unplug the rogers modem for about two or three minutes, then plug it back in and let it re-boot, then I can turn on all my machines and "presto"everything is back to highspeed again.
Rogers swears up and down that it is not their problem, and they have no idea how doing this would solve that problem, but trust me it does! |

I used to get this with an internal modem where it would connect ok and then just stop within 20 minutes. I decided it was the modem as a second modem on the same line was fine until disconnected by my ISP.

Who is your ISP?
If it's a dial-up connection like mine (NTL) then sometimes it takes a few dialups to get a good connection. When it happens, just disconnect and connect a few times until you get a solid connection. Try running System Restore from Safe Mode. Try installing a small, safe program, so changes are made to the Registry, and then running System Restore. Still trying guys, had the phone line checked there was some background noise which BT have promised to sort out. The connection is still intermittent, good and bad days as they say. Mike i have been with Claranet for over four years. Reset my ISP settings and still problems. i suspect the phone line but don't know why this would affect system restore.

One other thought. I purchased a cheap phone for the upstairs of my home. When it was plugged into my phone line my connection speed would drop from 50.6k to around 46k.
