I had read that 2000 Pro can be used for a server. Could someone point me in the direction of where I might get more information on how this works and how to setup a server? This will be my first time for setting up a server. The kind of server I need is a file server. Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any tools out there that can let 2000 Pro host a domain. Your best choice would be to use server operating system.

No bigdog I am talking just plain old 2000 Pro. It can be used as a server but a limited one.

Yes, All he wants is a file server. And it'll work fine for that. Any OS would.

You can only set it up as a peer-to-peer machine. In other words each machine in the network controls their own stuff. With a client-server (2000 server), you can control the individual machines more. You can change the default path for files to be saved to the 2000 machine so that it would be a kind of file server.

Larry, Thanks for the PM. I hope you got my reply. If you want help with this I will give you my e-mail. I'm always willing to help a charity. What you need is a simple process and 2k pro is perfectly adequate.
