PLZ STOP Administrative Pop-Ups

K I recently upgraded to 2000 and got rid of internet pop ups.

But the administrative pop ups remain (the greyed out box) I know it isn't my own administrative pop ups cos my OS doesn't sell Viagra.

How do I stop those types?

Excellent! Thanks

Is there any index or where I can find info on the rest of the services running as well?

I liked how to edit start ups in 98 as well. This is looking promising.

Jade,
Here is where I learned some tricks about "services".
Be careful though, if you have any doubt what will happen, don't change it!!!

Scroll down the page and have fun.

dont mess with services unless you are real sure of yourself or you get advice here first. Kubie is dead on with the messenger service but dont disable services willy nilly. If you want more control over what starts with windows, begin by downloading "startup control panel". It's kinda a msconfig for 2k.

oem_guy_2002 is right on.
The two services you can safely disable are "Alerter" and "Messenger".
Many of the others are a must-have or da pc don't run.
My pc is a stand-alone and I'm the only user. Its not networked to another pc. So there some other services I can disable.

Thanks for the word or warning. But since I did just switch to 2000 I don't have anything important added on yet so now would be the time if anything was to go wrong :P

And maybe cos I was used to going into the win98 registry and manipulating stuff is why I just feel like doing this but I know how to save myself.
thanks!
