Hi Gang!
I'm writing on behalf of a buddy who turns to me for computer/IT support. I haven't seen his machine. but here's the situation: 933 MHz PIII Gateway with 128 MB SDRAM and 39 Gig hard drive. Has WinME, Office 2000 and Norton Anti-Virus installed. He hasn't used Word much recently, but believes his wife has. Yesterday he used Norton Live Update to update his virus definitions and then found that he could not open Word. If he tried, it would open slowly, he'd get a message that his system resourses were low and the computer would freeze up. He ran NAV and found no viruses. He uninstalled Office and re-installed it, no go. He uninstalled NAV, still no go. He reinstalled NAV, still nothing. He used the 'Go Back' feature to retuen to previous configuration 48 hours previous and still had the lock up. Seems like I remember a problem with updating Norton and having Norton alter the registry that resulted in a similar problem. Or I suppose he could have a virus that was newer than his definitions or isn't being seen by NAV!? Any thoughts?? Thanks, Larry |

Try deleting the normal.dot template (reboot maybe) and try again. Word will recreate normal.dot as necessary.

Do you have the same problem with Excel??? If so, locate Excel.xlb and rename it to excelold.xlb.

Excel is no problem and the deletion of normal.dot did the trick once Office 2000 was reinstalled!
THANKS! |
