question on print screen.
This is probably a dumb question, but when I hit the print screen key, where does it go. Better yet, where can I go to find it. I'm using WinXP home.

Suitcase
I always press "print screen" and "Ctrl" keys together. You can then go into "Paint" and if I'm not mistaken, click on "Edit" on top of the tool bar and click on "paste" good luck |

You don't need to press it with Ctrl. Just hit printscreen and it saves it to the clipboard. You will then be able to paste it into any graphics program, such as paint or photoshop. If you hit Alt and Printscreen, it only copies the window with focus.

I use either Alt printscreen as RenegadeKing points out that only copies the active window or Control printscreen that copies the entire screen to the clipboard. I often paste this to MS Word document as Paint is difficult to resize image and maintain resolution. Word docs are easily attached to emails and such and almost everyone has it.

Wait, so two of u use control + printscreen. Does it do anything differenlyt than just printscreen without control? I use printscreen by itself to copy the whole screen.

I just tried all three: ctrl+printscrn, alt+printscrn, and just prindscrn by itself. I did not see any differences between the three pasted images.

Alt+printscreen copies just the window in focus.

I stand corrected. I had my window maximized when I took the shots.
![]() The alt+printscrn just copies the selected window. So does ctrl+printscrn. |

I just checked ctrl printscreen and it does whole screen. Not just window with focus. So I'm still convinced ctrl+printscreen doesn't do anything different than printscreen by itself.

Hmm... I tried ctrl+printscrn again. When I pasted, it was still the image I took previously. So I guess ctrl+printscrn doesn't do anything at all.

Ok, I've got it. But this means I can only do one at a time?

Unless you use a clipboard manager that will allow to have multiple things on your clipboard. When I have an Office Program open I think it's twelve items I can copy. It's more than I ever actually do at one time anyway.

Which clipboard manager do you use? I used Clipboard Pile but it is no longer a viable option. I need a new one. |

I use the one that is included with M$ Office. I'm not sure which version it is as I run mostly Office 2000 programs but I have a couple of XP ones(Visio and Publisher).
I would think any of the popular download sites would have a variety of them to choose from. Places like tucows, majorgeeks, cnet, all should have new versions of these utilities. |
