Post bootup error screen
Am working on neighbor's computer. After she deleted MacAfee online suite, she gets following error screen after bootup and before Windows screen. System is win98SE.
Error references callup of missing file by .ini then lists the following file: C:\PROG~~1\CYBERM~~1\CMAPIENG.VXD. System appears to work fine despite error screen, but I would like to know what causes it. Can anyone help me. Andrea, |

It would seem to be a dangling reference in the registry.
Run Regedit and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\SharedDLLs Select SharedDLLs and in the right window, look for an entry C:\PROG~~1\CYBERM~~1\CMAPIENG.VXD Select it, right mouse, Delete Then, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\ Select each one and look for a reference to CMAPIENG.VXD (the entry "could" be called CMAPIENG) Select it, right mouse, delete Exit Regedit and reboot. |

safer to simply open regedit and do a search (edit>find) for the entries mentioned in error message (press f3 after each entry has been found and it will find the next one...)...
before you delete anything be sure to back up the entries in case you make a mistake.... |

Everything's fine now. I told her the forum helped me, but my neighbor thinks I'm a hero. I know who the real heroes are. Thank you Galaxian and Dan.
