with only the information given I would guess that you have a nice (or not so nice) software conflict going on, try using msconfig and uncheck some things so that they dont load up when you boot your computer, maybe even uninstall some unneeded programs. XP by itself runs very stable, and if it doesnt on your machine (by itself) then a reformat is maybe in your near future.

Do you happen to have Kazaa installed?
Have you run a full scandisk and scan for viruses?

I having similar problem with XP freezing. Only happens when I'm on the net using IE6. I have done scandisk, SFC /scannow and numerous other things.
I think my problem is related to my ATI TV tuner. I believe (although not 100% sure that I had the TV on every time it has happened). Have tested since noon 02/15/03 without having TV tuner on and haven't experienced any lockups yet. I had three while going thru this forum Friday 02/14 and twice Saturday morning 02/15 while having TV tuner running. XP has a problem. check out http://www.windowsxpuser.com/ I'm not sure where it's at but all the posters at XPuser in addition to myself are running AMD systems. I don't know what chipset others are running but I'm running VIA. I'm also running ATI 7500 video card and ATI TV tuner VE. My problem didn't start until I tried to get the VCR function of the TV tuner to work about 2 months ago. Still haven't got it working properly as I have no sound on recordings. Chas

Yea, of coarse a virus is always possible, dont really get them myself, using hotmail and never download any attatchments is probably the reason. I have an AMD processor with the VIA chipset and a GeForce2 video card and it runs as smooth as can be, however I dont use IE anymore, I like Mozilla.

Confused, set the size of the temp folder to 25 MB and see if that helps.

Nuclear it's 30 now but I can try lowering it. Won't be able to check as I'm approaching this this thing very slowly. I'm not going to run the TV tuner until at least noon monday. That will be 48 hours. I've never gone 48 hours in last couple of weeks. So Monday I will lower to 25 and start the TV tuner.

Downloaded a driver update for my TV tuner from MS Saturday and haven't had a lockup since.
Those that might be having problems with XP freezing might check MS for driver updates for their systems. Chsa |
