What is it?
Does anyone know what the heck this is? "winnet.exe" Whatever it is I can't get rid of it through the add/remove programs, and it's starting to bother me. My hd light is on all the time (assuming that its running also) and I've been eliminating things one by one to see whats causing it. Any ideas?

Have you run a search for spyware?
Download Spybot Search & Destroy if you haven't already and do a scan. You can also try Start > Run > type msconfig and click on the Start tab. Look for the mentioned program in the list and if it's there uncheck it.

From greatis.com:
winnet.exe CommonName Sidebar from www.commonname.com Advertising Spyware. The uninstall program requires one to access the internet, get a validation code, and then enter this code to get the application to unload. None of this is stated upfront when installed. |

I ran the Spybot thing and I think I got rid of it, ALONG WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER CRAP! Holy cow there was a bunch of stuff on my system! Anyway my HD lite still stays on all the time as if a program is running or something. Is there any way to check whats making the drive activate?

How many programs do you have running in the background?
What are the programs running in your system tray? |

The famous 3 finger salute should tell you what programs are running in the background.
Ctrl+Alt+Del once and you should see them all. |

Looks like my CPU usage is running at 0-2% but that HD lite is still on. Under IImage Name up above it says "System Idle Process" and under the CPU column in the same line its at 99. What's that all about?

System idel process is the opposite of everything else.
If the system is idle (doing nothing) then this number will be high (98 or 99%). If something else is using CPU time, then this will go down. |
