Unhappy Modem causes system to reboot

This is my first post and I am hoping someone has an answer for my situation. I have a homebuilt system with a Soyo SY-K7V m/b and 512 megs PC2100 ram. I am running Win2K sp 3 and I am using AOL 7.0 for online access. My system has a USR 56K PCI software modem and every time I log off AOL the disconnect signal reboots the PC. I get no error messages or warnings but I do sometimes get a "Save Dump" message in the Event Viewer's System log. The error ID is 1001 which I traced, along with the error code of 0x000000d1 but none of the issues in the KB pertain to my situation. The modem is sharing IRQ 11 with the onboard audio device, the 1394 host controller and the VIA Rhine II ethernet controller. Could the minidump file offer a clue and if so, how would I decipher the file? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is the driver for the modem up to date ? If not you may want to go to manufacturers website and see if there is a new driver. Also some have a knowledgebase for known problems.

Make sure that AOL is using the correct driver for your modem.

look into your resources tab for the modem in device manager to see if it has any conflicts

If you have the room try to put it in a different PCI slot and see if you have the same problem.

Hope one of these helps

Nothing to do with drivers.
Nothing to do with AOL.
Too much sharing of IRQ's.
You've got audio, modem, and NIC all on the same IRQ, and you're going to have to sort that out first.

How can I change the IRQ assigned to some of these items? Under Device Manager properties for each item the "change settings" button is greyed out? I disabled the onboard LAN in the BIOS so that leaves the onboard sound, PCI firewire card, modem and USB host controller sharing IRQ 11, can I force one or more items over to another IRQ? Also, under the BIOS, do I select "Plug & Play OS" if I'm running W2K?

Deja Vu...I can't find any of the other numerous times I've posted this, so I'll type it all again.
Boot to SafeMode.
Go into Device mangler, remove all the offending devices, all com ports, and modems.
Restart, go into BIOS setup.
Set PnP OS to NO.
Set Reset Configuration Data to YES.
Disable Com 1 and 2.
Disable any modem IRQ in BIOS (power management and peripherals sections).
Disable any onboard DOS sound (Sound Blaster, MPU401 support).
Restart, let things install.
