Smile Recycle Bin Issue

Appreciate some assistance.

Trying to help a friend who has a Norton Protected Recycle Bin.

In the recycle bin he has the Norton Icon, and also some files from a download that went bad.

When he tries to right click the files to delete them, he cannot.

Any suggestions as to how he can get rid of these downloaded files?

Hi FZWG,

I love Norton System Works, but don't use the Recycle utility... First, have him look into the directory in question (Recycle bins are just hidden directories) to verify that the files actually exist or not.

If they do exist, have him/her try using Windows Explorer or My Computer to go in and delete the files.

Post back if it works or not...

Have you tried right-click on the Recycle Bin icon and choosing "Empty Nortn Protected Files".

Otherwise, go to the Options in SystemWorks and change the number of days files are protected or turn off file protection.

You can always enable it again after the files are deleted.

Right click on the Recycle Bin Properties and under the Recycle Bin tab, check "Standard Recycle Bin and rename the recycle bin to Recycle bin." Then under norton protection uncheck both of the boxes and remove protection. Purge the protected files.
Restart the computer and empty the recycle bin.

Thanks for the replies.

Had to get a brand new Recycle Bin recreated with the following approach from MS-DOS:

Start>Shutdown>Restart in MS-DOS
at the prompt, entered:
cd\ (enter)
deltree recycled (enter)
exit (enter)

Guess the folder itself became corrupted, so had to delete the 'Recycled' folder in W98SE.
