Reinstalling XP/What can I expect for serial reg.
I have a friends computer that is flaking out. I am going to reinstall XP Home. Before I do it, what are the processes for re-registering XP Home. Do I choose not to register now and then call them or what?
Thanks |

As I understand it, you should be able to re-activate witthout any problems. When I first built my system, I had to re-install XP Professional twice and just re-activated. If you cannot re-activate the activation process will prompt you to call Microsoft.

I have had to re-activate several times. I just use the internet option. I chose to skip registration.

It's no biggie just do it like you normally would. Even if it has you call it's takes about five minutes because that's about how long it takes to write the 50 digit number they give you down.

their is a command for reinstalling xp over the current instalation
it is as follows go to the location of your source files (the cd) and and click start, run and type winnt32 /unattend. that will reinstall xp over the current xp. you may need to reactivate it and\or re-enter your cd key. |
