slow applications....
I was at someones house today helping them with their computer, installing some programs(printmaster, publisher), and showing them how to do some things, and all was going well. I had restarted the computer a few times, making sure everything was alright, and it was, so i left. I got a call around 6 today, from her, saying that all applications took anywhere from 2-4 minutes to open up. She said she had the computer off from when i left at 12.30 to when she turned it back on at 5.30. what would cause this and what can i do to fix it? i tried doing a system restore, but it said it was incomplete. The last restore point was the 9th of Feb, and i dont know what the next one after that was. I am going back tomorrow to see what i can do, so any ideas would be appreciated.
thanks ^dan |

Maybe she has them running in the background when they dont need to be and they are taking up all the RAM?
Just a guess but I hope it helps. avx

Printmaster raises a red flag with me, particularly if you have a HP printer.
I`ve been running into a lot of system problems related to HP software the last few months. Try uninstalling PM through add/remove programs, delete the directory afterwards if it is still there and delete the registry key which will most likely be there. |

Alright i got it working. It was a realplayer file, evntsvc.exe, that was causing 100% cpu load, thus not letting anything else load. The lady didnt use RP so i just uninstalled it and it is working fine now. I did a little googling and found that even if you find a way to disable it, RP checks and will re-enable it. so the only way to get rid of it is to overwrite the exe file with something else. correct me if i am wrong since i only looked at a couple of pages.
thanks ^dan |

Real Player can be a real pain in the butt. I don't install it and just go to places that require you use it for video. Windows Media Player and Quick Time will cover most of the news sites anyway.
