Good Day All
![]() Sunday morning when I started my pc, my system started running a scandisk. During the scandisk, I got a message saying Windows had found bad clusters in windows\system32\dxmrtp.dll and replaced them. The pc worked fine after that. Monday all was normal. Today, when I started my pc, same thing....went to scandisk. This time it said Windows had found bad clusters in windows\system32\sortkey.nls and replaced them. PC seems to be working fine. I ran my NAV, nothing found. I even ran the online scan at TrendMicro, nothing found. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? ----------------- XP Pro ECS p6stmt MB 512 pc133 sdram Samsung 20 Gig HD/Fujitsu 4 Gig HD |

I`d visit the website of your harddrive manufacturer and see if they have a diagnostic utility you can download and run.

Sounds like your hard drive is going south or you may have a virus on your system. Do a full virus scan and download a diagnostic utility from your hard drive manufacterers website and run a test on the hard drive
![]() Just read your post again..Since you did not get any viruses, it would be nice to do a full spyware scan(download spybot search and destroy from the search results you get from google.com) and do a full trojan scan(download trojan remover from downloads.com it is really good) if you get nothing found, then it probably means that your hard drive is about to die. Backup your DATA ASAP! Last edited by Markoman01027; 02-18-2003 at 04:04 PM. |

I found a diagnotstic utility on my HD manutacturer's site, I'll try running that and see what happens. I ran spybot just last week and cleaned out most of the junk in there already. Thanks for all the suggestions so far
![]() Oh, and FYI, the HD is only at most a year and a half old. |

Gimpy,
That doesn't mean anything. I bought a Western Digital, installed Windows 98SE on it, then I formatted the hard drive and then removed the partition, half way thru windows XP setup, it gave me an error saying my hard disc is damaged. |

Western Digital is pretty good aswell as Maxtor. Specially the "Special Edition" from Western Digital that come with the 8MB cache.

How old is your Hdrive? If it's Western Digital they usually replace the drive that if it's still under warranty. Check it out from their Site for RMA. I returned Hdrives twice to them already without any problem. The only cost was the Priority Mail stamps sending it to WD. They will ship back for free.

Its a Samsung, and if I remember correctly, its just over a year old. I don't know exactly when I bought it, no clue where the sales slip is.

Did you try getting RMA from them? Most HD mfrs. do not need your sales slip. What they need is the Serial Number and Model of the HardDrive. They will tell you if it's under warranty.
If I were you I will contact them I visited there site and it seems like IBM, Western Digital they got the same set up in getting RMA. This is there links: http://www.samsungelectronics.com/hd...nty/index.html You could also contact them thru that link. Also it is a must that you DL there 'Shdiag.exe' (Diagnostic) in getting their RMA. |

I have yet to get Samsung to warranty a hard drive directly. They always tell me it was originally sold as oem and has no warranty. Which coincides with the fact I have to see one last very long in the last couple of years. For me that means I won't buy any of their stuff, with the exception of RAM. I'll only buy that if i get it from a third party that has a warranty.
