WinXp and vanishing file folder

I have another post on this forum about WinXP but this is a different computer, also running XP.

I had a file folder with several hundred graphic files in it. I opened the folder and found a file I needed, then closed the folder. The folder then disappeared----just vanished. It is not in the recycle bin, nor can "search" find it. Its gone. Does WinXP have this known bug where is eats and digests file folders?

On another computer, I opened a folder of graphic files and while I was looking at the list of files, they disappeared leaving me looking at an empty folder. Any ideas on what might be doing this. Luckily, I had all my files backed up so I didn't lose anything.

I would appreciate any insights. Crank

I forgot to mention, I'm using WinXP Pro

Hello Crank33,

You may have a virus on your system.
go to trendmicro.com and run their free virus scan on your system
and then download trojan remover from downloads.com
and scan for trojans
I would also download Spybot Search and Destroy(search for it on google.com) and remove any spyware that it finds.

I haven't had that happen. I suspect the files are still there jus hidden by some malicous code. Although I suppose it could have deleted them. I think a virus scan is a very good idea.

Anytime you see something strange, don't blame it on WIndows, run a virus and trojan scan as soon as possible.

A scan didn't find any viruses or trojans but SpyBot turned up an interesting collection of scumware. Cleaned that out. I think I'll install Service Pack 1a and go from there.

Thanks. If any more files or folders disappear, I'll holler. Crank
