Password Protected folders

Is there anyway to set a password for a specific folder in winxp?

Hi,

Do you mean for instance when sharing it across a network? Then of course the answer is yes. Otherwise, I think you can also restrict access to certain items, depending what type of user you are. For instance if you are in the "administrators" group you can access everything (I'm using my knowledge from win2k here-- I'm assuming XP ought be similar). I bet for other users you can somehow set what they can have access to (if they aren't administrators), i.e. setting the permissions on items (who can have access and of what type). I guess I never really checked into it, someone else might know more. HTH.

Yes, Floppyman, the Admin group in XP can access everything.

Why not make another limited User Account for your Dad?
Don't make him member of Admininistrator Group. If he will not get mad though. or errr.. hmm???...just a thinking here.

I had a similar question. i would like to password protect certain folders from other users when they are on my computer. (i'm at school and we all use each other's comps from time to tome).

is there any way in XP or from a free/cheap program that will let the administrator password protect certain folders?

If you have simple file sharing disabled you can protect any folder you want. This works for Pro don't know about Home Edition.
