USB Printing Probs

I've got an OfficeJet combo fax/printer/copier, and I am trying to install it on a windows 2000 professional computer, this was a windows nt 4.0 computer that was upgraded to 2000. It has no service packs on it yet, but the USB stuff seems fine, i get one problem in the device manager that "USB Printing Support" added as a device under the USB category "could not start (Code 10)." I've tried uninstalling it, and reinstalling it, I've made sure USB is enabled in the BIOS, I've flashed my bios, I've tried installing the driver for the printer itself, but I can't get the damn exclamation to go away. Does anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to format and rinstall win2k fresh although I'm sure that would fix the problem.

Thanks,

Seth

Hello Sdkramer,

The cause of this problem could be due to an incorrect setting with the BIOS. This is known with SIS 530 motherboards. To resolve this issue, you may need to disable the DOS USB setting in the BIOS.
Good luck!

I can tell you that I`ve been having a terrible time with HP printers the last year and have spoken with a Senior tech at a major firm who has told me that according to his records approx 50% of the system problems they`ve been having were due to HP software.

Lexmark was advised.

I know this doesn`t solve your problem , or the problems I`ve been having, which are similar to what you`ve described, but thought I`d pass it along.

BTW, the software for an OfficeJet G85 multiprinter recently crashed a freshly installed Windows2000 Pro SP3 machine so bad that the repair option (using ERD), recovery console, or repair option install was unsuccessful and I had to do a fresh install from a full format. The owner insists on using his Officejet, which never performed right, another story, and we`re getting occassional error messages now. Not to mention that there is a "known conflict" with Outlook 2000. Come on, a new printer that won`t print e-mail?????? Give me a break HP.
