Could the file be vsdata95.vxd? Have you installed or unistalled ZoneAlarm lately?

YES! It happened after that. What happened to it? also how do I get to that command prompt? I just tried to find it using my startup disk but didn't see it. I guess Zonealarm had something to do with it? I have already uninstalled it, before I came here.

What Operating System are you using? Win 98? If so, you can get to the command prompt by restarting to MS-Dos. Before you try to scanreg/restore, you may want to reinstall ZoneAlarm and uninstall it again following their instructions on their website.

Also, you might want to check msconfig to see if you have any instances of ZoneAlarm trying to startup when the computer boots.

win95se is the OS. I have checked msconfig and have it set to selective start, with Zonealarm unchecked. I will chech their website for instructions. I thought Zonealarm was supposed to be a good program?
Thanks for the help.

Don't do a scanreg/restore. This will not restore any missing files and will put back a registry that contains all the ZA stuff you just uninstalled.
The error you are getting is FROM a registry entry.

Run Regedit and browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs
In the right window, scroll to and select
C:\windows\system\vsdata95.vxd
Right mouse > delete

Then browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VSDATA95
Select VSDATA95
Right Mouse > Delete

Exit Regedit

ZA IS a good program. Why did you uninstall it?

ZA is a great program...the only downside I've experienced is trying to uninstall it. You must follow the directions on the website to a "t"....
It did seem a bit invasive when first installed, but after set up is done it "settles down" and does a great job...

galaxian,
I uninstalled it after I started have problems immediatley after I installed it. Probably not a big deal, but seemed like it to me. I kept getting messages about shockwave and asked me to install it. I selected yes, but kept shutting down IE and restarting, and i would repeat the process continously. Finally after I got my home page to load it would start again after I clicked a link. After uninstall it stopped but now I have this problem with missing file vdata95.vxd.
I will try what you suggested. I am not really sure how but will see what I can do.
Thanks

When you run Regedit, it will "look" like Explorer, with "folder" names and + signs beside them.
Use the keys that I posted above just as if they were file directories.
Keep clicking on the + signs until you open the structure up to the indicated name.
