Question W2k Start-up Information?

Hi to all. I'm new to this forum. I have read the threads that I hoped applied to my situation, but they did not. Helpful, tho.

I am wondering how I can find out exactly what all the various programs and services are that are listed on my computer at start-up. I use W2K.

START > CONTROL PANEL > ADMINSTRATIVE TOOLS > SERVICES to get my listing. I find a mix of "manual" and "Automatic" items.

For example: Automatic listings: IPSEC Policy Agent or Logical Disk Manager.

Manual: Alerter or Application Manager.

There are about 332 such items. How would I find out what these are -- if I really need them -- and how to get rid of them?

I am not a techie, but have some experience with puters.

Thanx in advance to all replies.

This site has a good list of Win2K services (as well as WinXP services):

www.blkviper.com

It will tell you what you can safely disable and what you absolutely need.
