cannot reformat hard drive

I bought a new hard drive (Maxtor 20G) just to put my OS(XP) and programs on. I copied my C: drive from my WD 80 G to my new maxtor using power quest and everything worked perfectly. Now I want to reformat my WD and repartition it. I put in my WD diagnostic floppy that formats and repartitions. I've tried everything but it won't work. All I want to do is reformat and repartition. Does any body use a WD as their secondary HD and uses XP?
Thanks

If you have XP you can do that by going to control panel/administrative tools/disk management and you can format & partition and even change drive letters right from there. Just make sure you format the correct drive and not the one with the operating system.

thanks trulad but I already tried that. I wound up installing XP on the WD and that way I could format and partition. I temporarily hooked it up as the master drive and then did a full install on it. Then I switched it back to slave status. Worked like a charm but I think there is a better way to do it. i just don't know how.
