"Safely Remove Hardware" icon in systray

I recently plugged in a USB Compact flash reader, the Sandisk Imagemate SDDR-05b reader. It popped up a new device wizard and I cancelled it out. Since then I downloaded drivers to XP and it works fine. But that "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is still in the tray. Any ideas as to how to get rid of it? Is it as easy as unplug USB device and the replug?

Windows wants you to click on that and stop the device before you unplug it. For a read/write device it's actually a good thing.
