Hello there,
I need to find a utility to reveal password asterisks that will run under XP. I cuurently use snadboys revelator which works great, but only on 9x machines. I know these things have some unscrupulous uses, but it is absolutely vital for me as I have to transfer a lot of settings over from computer to computer. Most people have forgotten their email passwords and it wastes time when they have to track them down. Thanks in advance, Matt. |

I know what you're saying mate, but if people are worried about security they can leave passwords unsaved and type them in each time, they should also have a password protected user area. Plus if people really want to find this stuff out they will.
As this is a legitimate application, I didn't want to have trawl through a bunch of seamy warez and hackers sites. |

The issue isnt so much as your requirements, Matt, as it is our inability to see beyond what is on this webpage; or the inability for us to prevent the information reaching the wrong hands. While we cant control what is on the internet as a whole, at PCMech, as you might well have noticed, we tend to deal with issues that dont have a grey area in terms of abuse or legality.

XP has the the ability to transfer settings or to just back them up. It's fast and it's easy. Besides you don't have to be able to see passwords to transfer them. Just move the pwl file over to their new computer.

Not a problem,
thanks for the feedback anyway. Tuf - I didn't think that dial up and email passwords were stored in the .pwl files. I will try out the files and settings transfer, I never thought of that. |
