Question startup disk

Does the full version of windows xp come with a startup disk. If not what do I do to put the operating system on a pc I'm building myself?

The WinXP CD is bootable so you don't need a boot floppy.

You need to go into BIOS and set the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive. Put the WinXP CD in the CD-ROM drive. Save and Exit. The system will reboot to the WinXP CD and the installation will start. Follow the on-screen instructions.

You do not need one. The CD is your startup disk.

You can download and make start up floppies for XP if you want. There's six of them if I remember correctly, I have never done it. The CD works great as long as the bios will allow to boot from the CDROM. Most computers made in the last several years are capable of it.

No, you don't "need" a startup floppy disk for WinXP. When you buy WinXP, it only comes with the WinXP CD...no startup floppy is included. The WinXP CD is bootable and it's the startup disk.

You can make a floppy bootdisk for troubleshooting purposes. Go to Bootdisk.com, you can download the proper bootdisk files from there.

Only Windows 95 needed a startup disk. All successors (Win98, ME) and WinNT (and 2K and XP) are on bootable CDs.
Just insert the CD and boot from it. You need to enable boot from CD in bios if it's deactivated, though.

Nice, eh :-)
