restart in ms-dos

i am running windows me, i would like to restart into ms-dos mode but that is not an option when i go to start then shut down. when i restart, i hold ctrl and/or f8 until options come up and it doesn't have the command prompt option, only normal, logged, safe, and step by step. i would like to get to command prompt so i can delete infected files.
i've searched for the command line to add restart in ms-dos mode to the list (in shutdown window), but failed to find it. so if you could help me out with this minute problem.
thank you.

They pretty much did away with that with WinME.. The closest you get is msdos command prompt that is still available from within WinME..
You still can create a win boot disk though and boot with it to accomplish your desired task!
