Assertion failed?

I'm having a problem on this computer I'm working on. Win98 and an error message that I get when going to My Computer. When i click on MC, I get this error...

Assertion failed in file D:\Projects 3.60 Client\Comet Client\BHO\CSBHO.cpp line 581

I've searched all of drive c to find this program and can't find it. I Would reinstall and then uninstall if thats what I need.

When i click on details for the error, its got exception 03H.

I don't understand why I'm having an error in D:\

Any help would be appreciated very much!

The "comet client" part kind or sounds like the "comet cursor". Try searching for that in add/remove programs.

start > settings > control panel > Add/Remove Programs

But then again, I don't really think comet could do something like that.

Have you tried running a virus scan and scandisk?

I looked for it in Add/Remove programs and its not there. There are Comet folders in explorer, but they are either empty or just full of what looks like unzipped files. I tried Comet.exe and nothing happened. I did run a virus scan and there isn't a virus.
I tried going to System File Checker under System Information and there was nothing to repair.

Problem is solved...i found the uninstall program for Comet Curser and that took care of it.

I do have another question though...
I installed some software for my Pacific Digital external cd burner, and decided that I didn't want to use their program. Its not located in Add/Remove Programs and there isn't an uninstall program in the folder or on the cd. How do you uninstall programs that don't include that?

What burner program was it?

Removing programs manually is a fair headache. If you can track down an uninstall file, even if the shortcut is missing, that is much easier. Morriswindgate had recommended a program called Add/Remove Plus --> http://www.aurelitec.com/software/arplus/

AddRemove Plus has a trial version: you could give it a try, and if it doesn't work, no damage done.

Other things you can try: reinstall the burner program "on top of " whatever version is already on your drive. It might provide a working uninstall shortcut. Then uninstall with that, and I'd recommend a run of RegClean after that (the following link says it's for "Win95 Registry". . . but version 4.1 was updated for Win98 and Win98 2nd Edition) --> http://download.com.com/3000-2094-881470.html?tag=list

Best of luck
