Today, windows stopped working. Some odd things have been happening lately, so I'll start from there.
Yesterday, I my usb mouse attached to the computer via a usb->ps2 converter stopped working. I took off the adapter, put it in a usb port, and it worked again. Today, I bought a new logitech mx700, and I began to install the drivers for it. During the installation, my computer rebooted, as it has been doing without cause quite a bit lately. When the windows login screen came up after the unexpected restart, no mouse pointer showed up, and the keyboard didn't work. If I pushed caps lock/num lock/scroll lock, the corresponding light would not activate on the keyboard. The keyboard still works, becuase I was able to use it in the bios, and during the windows reinstall. Because I had been wanting to reformat anyway, I put in the windows disk, deleted the OS partition on my single drive, and recreated it, formatting it as NTFS. I don't know if its important, but during the format, it was stuck for quite a while on 1%, as in almost a minute. I then reinstalled windows on that partition. BTW, after partitioning it, the configuration on the disk had 7mb unpartitioned space listed before the first partition. It installed, and rebooted, but then it got hung up on "Verifying DMA pool data." I did the above paragraph (reformat, reinstall) a 2nd time with the same results. If anyone has any ideas about how to fix this, please help me out here because now I'm stuck on my parents slow computer Thanks! Last edited by mattg2k4; 03-02-2003 at 09:29 PM. |
