Win98 games problems
I installed Win98 on a new build. Everything's fine. A few weeks later, I went back and installed the Games portion under "Accessories". I thought everythign went smoothly there too until I started to get some odd problems. For example, when you run FreeCell, the game screen opens normally, but when you select "New Game", the board goes 3/4 white and I have to exit out. I have had problems with Hearts and Solitaire also. When I launch a new game of Solitare, I get this error:
SOL caused a segment not present fault in module KRNL386.EXE at 0001:00000c2b. Registers: EAX=80fc9900 CS=014f EIP=00000c2b EFLGS=00000283 EBX=80fc9900 SS=292f ESP=000026c4 EBP=ffffffec ECX=00000000 DS=0177 ESI=0000214f FS=214f EDX=0000292f ES=0177 EDI=00000177 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 66 60 1e 2e 8e 1e 02 00 06 0f a0 0f a8 8b ec 90 Stack dump: 003b034c 0c2b0000 014f0000 02830000 034c0001 0000003b 00000c2b 0000014f 00010283 003b034c 0c2b0000 014f0000 02830000 034c0001 0000003b 00000c2b I have tried to reinstall the Accessories portion over the top of the existing, with no avail. None of the other Win98 stuff seems to be having any problems. It is starting to drive me a little crazy. Anybody have any ideas? |

Haven't seen that one before... Sounds like you may want to uninstall the games, run a virus and spyware checker, then reinstall.

Solitaire is also famous for not getting along with Logitech's Mouseware drivers. If you have fancy mice/keyboards (optical/or wireless) you can try different drivers - or just uninstall the manufacturer's drivers & use the support built into Win98. Some folks find that disabling the driver point32.exe (for MS mice) helps. If this doesn't apply to your system, nevermind.
Here are some other FreeCell & Solitaire related links: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=55721 http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread..../615/qid/71662 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310870 Best of luck . . . Gary |
