I have really done something stupid now
ok, I install win xp pro on my main computer, got everything working and stuff.
then after I installed some programs I went to reboot, non system disk error. hmm everything seems ok, but I my hard drive is not bootable, but if I put the CD back in and boot to the CD then I can load windows xp. It is like my partition is not active, if I was in fat 32 I would know how to correct that, but I used NTFS, that was probably my second mistake. Any ideas? I am going to try a few.

Assuming that you're not leaving a "non-system disk" in the floppy drive...hey, it happens to the best of us...take a look at this MS KB article to see if there's any help there....or maybe gives you a place to start?

ok, this is silly, I used fdisk, made the partition active and now all is good. I should not have had to do that since I let windows install make the partition and format.

fdisk can still set active partitions and stuff, it just can't do anything to the ntfs drive (if i remember correctly).

That's a curious one byte. If you find an answer, let us know.
Are just using XP or are you dual or multi-booting? Last edited by mike breck; 03-04-2003 at 02:08 PM. |

I gave up on that XP install, it hates my system. Well it works until I try to use my onboard raid. Even with the newest drivers I get blue screens before windows loads, but switch back to IDE it is ok.
I am back to win 98se on this PC, it should not have any issues with xp but it run 98se like a dream so be it. |
