Last week I installed NWN. When I put the CD onto the drive and closed it the autoplay appeared but whenever I hit "Install" it would crash.
I tried then running it from the Run box. It took forever to start. I recall the same thing happening with Baldur's Gate 2: SoA. The game never installed. Today I wanted to install Red Faction and the autoplay would never pop up. I tried the Run box again and it took forever to start the installer proggie. Suspecting my MSI burner was the culprit I installed an LG 52X CD-ROM. Same thing. It took eons to start. When it finally ran it did it flawlessly and the game is installed and running now. But this bothers me: why are the installers doing this? Any ideas?

It's probably a service that's needed, and it's not starting right away. When you load the CD, Windows trys to start the service, and sometimes that can take a few minutes.
It's next to impossible to track down what service you need running though. |
