Different Shutdown Problem!

I have not seen this problem addressed. I searched MS KB and other sources. I hope someone here can offer a quick cure.

When I go to Shutdown in Win XP I get no response other than a screen refresh. When I click on Shutdown the second time it shuts down just exactly as it should. It does it every time. The other day I went through shutdown the first time with no results, and then changed my mind and went about some business for the next hour. I went back to shutdown, and it worked flawlessly the first time since it remembered my first attempt.

Hi VetteRestorer,

Do you have a lot of background programs running on your computer? Do you have Easy CD Creator or Direct CD installed?

Take a look here.

Background Programs

I would say that I have about a normal number.

Pc-cillin
Ad-Aware - Adwatch
WinZip Quick Pic
WS-FTP Queue Utility
InterVideo
Abit Display
Sound Effect AC 97 Surround Sound

The problem started when I installed Ad-Aware, but I have heard nothing but good reports about that sofware.

Go into Task Manager. End Task PC-Cillin, Ad-Aware, Adwatch. Then see if you are able to shut down properly.

If not, you will need end task more programs(Winzip, WS-FTP, etc) but only end task and try to shut down at one at a time.

Thanks, I will have to try that I guess. I was hoping for something a little less time consuming than going through to startup routine.

Thanks Wampus. I will give that a try.

I may just give SpyBot a try.
