Question Can't get XP to shut down properly

Hi,
After Updating a Abit BX6 v2.0 mobo with an PIII 800 processor with some new hardware and installing XP Home, I shut it off and I get the screen

It is now safe to shut your computer
On about a dozen installs of XP I have never had this problem! I've been playing around in the BIOS under power management, but nothing I do seems to correct this. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? By the way if you haven't guessed I want it to turn the PC off automatically I guess I wasn't too clear on that.
TIA

do you have the latest bios update, you can go into device manager, system devices and see if it has listed as standard pc in system tree also check control panel>performance and maintenence>power options see if there is APM tab in the Power Options Properties dialog box

Go into the BIOS and make sure that any options to enable ACPI or APM are enabled.

If you have a icon for APM in the Control Panel then tick the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box, and then click OK.

Does your manual say the mobo supports ACPI?

Thumbs up

Thanks newme and Mike I'll check out the control panel, ACPI and ARM are enabled in the BIOS. As far as I know the mobo supports ACPI but I'll check it out when I get home, I imagine it does as it offers you the option of enabling or disenabling it in the BIOS.
