Hi,
I am running XP home edition, which came with my Dell inspiron 8200. My boot up takes forever, I downloaded bootvis and ran a trace. Found out my Log on & Services has 188 sec init time. I shut off all my start up apps & non MS services with msconfig, Made no difference. Does anyone know a way that I can trace what exactly is taking soooooo long to load? Thx ez 1.7Ghz Intel Pentium4-M 512 Ram 30G Hard drive 32Mb Nvidia Geoforce |

Thanks, but that didn't help, I don't think it's a BIOS problem
It is in the Log on And Service load up Last edited by ezmerelda; 03-09-2003 at 08:02 PM. |

You need to press F8 when you boot up and try ton bypass configuration files.
Remove one hardware device at a time in Safe Mode, reboot and see if it continues. |

The Procrastinator
|
Click the Start button then go to "Run" and type in "Regedit". Now follow this string HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> SessionManager -> MemoryManagement -> PrefetchParameters.
Once inside, find the Prefetch string and change the value from 3 to 5. Since the value's are so low, it doesn't matter if you're using Hexadecimal or Decimal. i3oss |

Thank you very much for the input!
I think I have found my problem, I don't know how to fix it but I think I found it. I have an unused network connecton, When I try to disable it, I stall and then go to not responding. I am sure this is my boot up time hog, but I have no idea how to get rid of ot if I can't disable it through device manager. any help is appreciated, ez |

Is it an onboard nic? If so, disable it in the bios. If it is a pci nic, then you could remove it.
