Angry Previews Gone!!

PLEASE help!

I have all of a sudden lost the ability to click on a JPEG or BMP file in a folder and see a preview in the left hand pane. (Does that make sense?)

I don't think I am talking about Quick View as I think that opens up a new window anyway. I just need to be able to see what the file is before I open it, and it has always done so before.

I've even just reinstalled Windows 98se, but it's made no difference. This happened to me once before and the only way I got around it was by reformatting. I really don't want to have to do this again at this stage.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Clara

I have the same problem. Soon after the installation of win98SE, that feature vanishes. Maybe it has to do with what progs are installed...

Thing is........... ........

It was working fine earlier. I haven't installed anything and noticed they stopped working straight after.

I did install Corel Print House a few days ago but they were still working after that.

It is ***VERY*** annoying!!!

Oooooooh now THAT's odd. Well, mine says Version 3 on the box, but Photo House that comes with it is Version 2. Funny enough when I installed it I had trouble with it associating files. I managed to sort it out, and I thought everything was okay. It has worked for three days.

I am going to uninstall it all.....

Will post with the outcome!!

Ho! That is a random smilie on my last post!

Anyway, I've uninstalled it and it's still not working. It seems a bit of a coincidence that we're both running the same program and have the same problem....

...but having said that, when it happened to me before I didn't have it on the system at all.

*gnashes teeth*

SCREAM!!!!!!

HOW mad!!
I have JUST noticed that a JPEG I saved about an hour ago *IS* previewing!! But anything older is not! Have just saved another random picture and that too is previewing. I hadn't noticed if these new pics previewed when I had CPH on the system. SO I suppose I should reinstall it....... and find out.....

*weary*

Ok, here's the update. Before I reinstalled Print House I noticed that the file extension of the two pics that previewed were .JPEG but the files that do NOT preview (basically every pic on my system....) are suddenly just .JPG

Don't know how this could have happened. I guess I could maybe put it right with a renaming program, but that's tedious and I'm sure not the answer. Is there any way to change file extensions?!

After I reinstalled CPH nothing had altered. Not sure if it's a red herring now.

You and I have the exact same thing going on. Sometimes a new pic shows up in the preview, sometimes not.

I have CPH on my two machines and they both have the same problem. So, that's 3 machines total. Coincidence? I think not.

Do you have Corel Photo House installed as well? (version 1.1)

I DO have Photo House, version 2.

Just noticed something. If I have extensions turned on, and I rename a file something.JPEG instead of something.JPG it will preview!

FF2002, have a look at your extensions (arf!) and see if the problem ones are JPEGS or JPGS!

Well, I've faffed about with my file options, but my brain is addled so I am oft to bed.

Something I did that worked was use Flash Renamer http://www.rlvision.com/
to rename a load of files from JPG to SPEG and now they all preview just fine.

It seems a silly step, but it works.

Let me know if you find anything else out FF2002!

I believe it's IExplorer but you should get previews even after you change the default.
